About the project

Everyone can fold paper crane; it is small and takes only a few minute of their time…but we collected more than three thousand of them! Can you imagine how beautiful and powerful decoration will be on the Children’s hospital walls with 3000 paper cranes together? We are sure it will brighten up the hospital wall.

Big thanks to Anne and Shane!!

Anne Tenney and Shane Withington have folded paper cranes for the exhibition.
Their works will be framed and for sale at the exhibition. All the profit will be donated to the Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation.

Anne Tenney is an Australian film and television actress, probably best known for her role as Molly Jones in the television drama A Country Practice and as Sal Kerrigan in The Castle.

Shane Withington is an Australian actor best known for his starring roles in the television series A Country Practice as Brendan Jones, the male nurse and Willing and Abel (as Abel Moore). Withington also had a recurring role as Colin on Home and Away. After his role in A Country Practice, he appeared in a spin-off series with co-star Grant Dodwell called Willing and Able.

Withington had a guest star appearance in Strange Bedfellows, alongside Paul Hogan and Michael Caton. In 2010, he has returned to the Australian small screen in the regular role of John Palmer again in the soap Home and Away. (Wikipedia)

International conference of Eco Ideas

8-11 September, 2011 Manly Sydney Australia

In 2011 Manly Environment Centre is celebrating 20 years of environmental advocacy and community education with a high profile four day International Conference of Eco Ideas.

This conference will focus on the interests and activities of Environment Centres and community activism throughout Australia and around the world. Its objective is for participants to share best practice experiences, establish networks and learn strategies on how to effect change in local communities.

The event will be held at North Head Sanctuary – a place of outstanding Aboriginal significance natural beauty and diversity. As the gateway to Sydney Harbour, it is an appropriate site for this important gathering.

Join us to learn from and be inspired by international experts, share best practice, case studies, campaign successes along with innovative methods to educate and engage the community.

Conference themes include

  • Inspiring sustainable communities
  • Environment Centres - faces, facets, functions
  • Campaigning for climate change
  • Biodiversity versus development
  • Engaging and mobilising the community
  • Managing volunteers and interns
  • Creating events that make an impact
  • Learning from indigenous communities
  • Using art as a driver for change

Please note that the 'Call for Papers and Presentations has now closed' and those who have submitted papers will be advised shortly.

Environment Centres: hubs for change, powered by the community.

Mayu and I are invited to run some origami workshop on Sat 10th and Sun 11th September. Come and join us to fold more paper cranes at North Head Sanctuary, Manly.

Giant Origami Crane on Fence

An origami crane has landed in my front yard! She looks absolutely gorgeous and has flowers all over her. The bird told me she was on her way to the Randwick Children's Hospital to be part of the exhibition 'Folding with Love' by Midori Furze & Mayu Kataoka!

There is still some time left to fold origami cranes for the project and if you are part of a club or like to fold with your class - please do so! Maybe you can even make a bigger crane than the one I spotted on the fence! Good luck with it! It's lots of fun :-)

You can take a gigantic piece of paper and fold it. Or you can add lots of small drawings together.Maybe you can draw your face with all the children from your class and step 2 glue them into a large sheet. Or you can collect pieces of fabric and make a textile origami bird. So much options!

Good luck!
